Distraction Politics

Maybe this has always been the case and now and I am just seeing it, but it appears that we are explicitly being distracted by generally unimportant issues that polarize voters. I think this is a good tactic if you want to make the real issue seem less pressing. My old friend from the UU (who was a SC state senator for a while) said this was exactly how politicians used to divide poor whites and blacks while they got fleeced.
